The wonder of this question is that the answer appears obvious at first
until a carefully heart-search is done. The Pharisees were experts in
Scripture, but they could not discern the Word when He stood before
them. The disciples who walked with Him for more than three years did
not fully understand His ministry until He resurrected. Christmas is
celebrated globally but many do not know the One who is being
celebrated. Saul was a religious zealot who totally missed the Author
and Finisher of the faith he thought he was defending. Many have
found religion in church, but they are yet to find the Savior and Lord of
the Church. It is truly a dangerous thing to assume to know Him when
our experience suggest otherwise.
God, in the form of the Son, became man to restore man into divine
sonship and authority. He came for man to experience God in reality.
He came to restore a lively and observable relationship with God. It
means anyone who claims to know who Jesus is will not merely declare
it but demonstrate the power of such intimacy (John. 17:3). This is what
Peter and John did at the beautiful gate by healing the lame man. They
demonstrated that they knew Jesus by exercising authority on His
behalf. This is what the world is expecting Christ-like people to be.
Creation is waiting on sons who not only claim to know Jesus but can
also function as His representatives. In a world with growing darkness,
there is a dire need for people who truly know who Jesus is.
PRAYER FOCUS: Father, open the eyes of my heart to truly see and
know You. Lord, deliver my heart from empty religion and draw me into
an intimate union with You in Jesus Name.
