MATHEW 22:37-40
God is eternally committed to loving us. He demonstrated this commitment by giving covenants and promises (Is. 54:10). God gave covenants not because of man’s merit but because of His faithfulness (Ezek. 36:22-23). The old covenant was motivated by love just as the new covenant was given because of love (Jn. 3:16). Love is the only reason why the Almighty God will humble himself to come into an agreement with mere mortal. The fulfilling of the law is not in mere religious performance but to love God and to love one’s neighbor (Matt. 22:37:40). There is no greater demonstration of religious piety than to love others. This means the mark of being like Christ is to live in the kind of love for God and others as He did. Jesus specifically revealed that love is the brand mark for everyone that follows Him (Jn. 13:35). Are you like Christ in loving others?
Everyone born of God is born with His loving nature. It is the core expression of God’s person. Hence, anyone who does not love, does not know, or come from God. The Father’s expectation is that we let His love flow through us to others because this is the way to reflect God’s value system for others. It is to see that everyone is included in the population He died for. It is to see His blood hanging over every unbeliever’s head. This is the motivation that plants the interest for seeing others come to the knowledge of His love (1 John 2:9-10). Our reluctance to evangelize shows that we don’t understand and appreciate God’s love for us and towards others. If we love God, His heart’s desire must be our craving. Our Father desires that souls come to Him. As loving children, we must desire the same. Today, let’s show our love for God by pouring out love to our unsaved brethren.
PRAYER FOCUS: Lord, I repent of a loveless religious heart. Today, I receive grace to live in Your love and to be a channel of Your love towards others in Jesus’ name.
