ARISE AND SHINE

ARISE AND SHINE

EPHESIANS 5:8, MATHEW 6:16

Let there be light. This is the first declaration that God made after creation of the heavens and the earth. This light was not the sun or the moon or stars. It was an essence of His Person released into the world as an antidote to the infestation of darkness upon the earth. This was God addressing the first need of creation and in the same breath, offering an eternal prescription on how to overcome darkness. We see that from the beginning, darkness sought to establish dominion on earth and was on its way to success but for the intervention of The Father of Light. This craving of darkness and its ruler to cover the entire world and its inhabitants continues till today. The Bible acknowledges this in Isaiah 60:2, declaring that “darkness covers the earth and thick darkness the people”. Scripture also assures us that God has prepared solutions in form of you and I to resist and overcome the infestation of darkness in the world. Our God is light and in Him, there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). As children of The Light, we are by nature, lights in this world. The advantages of light are that it dispels darkness and it provides illumination. Light is also associated with direction and guidance (Ps. 119:105). These benefits are available only when light can shine on areas of darkness. This means the opportunity for darkness to dominate this world hinges on the failure of the sons and daughters of God to shine the light of God upon the earth (John 1:5). It also means that by failing to light up the world, the children of God participate, by omission, in the continued subjection of creation to the torment of darkness. There is a burden of responsibility you and I, as children of God, must accept for the dominion of darkness in our society. This is not because we created the problem but because we continue to allow it by our failure to release the light that the Lord has deposited in us into the world. Arise and shine for thy light has come. God has deposited His nature, His presence and His power into us so that we become capable ambassadors of His kingdom and His will. The groaning of creation is that we will arise and release our light for the world to see. The time is now for us to speak the word of life, share the testimony of the gospel and declare the reality of His grace. It is time to arise and let the light of His Person shine through us into the world. We must joyfully embrace the mandate of being a conduit for the demonstration of His love for all men and for the expression of the immensity of His power over all situations. The nature of God in us must find expression in our words, actions, character, attitude and generally, in our interactions. The summary of an encounter with you as a child of God should be that the light of God resides in you and that it radiates through all that you do. It is time we stop allowing the reign of darkness and begin reproving it all around us. It is time to let your light shine.

Prayer Point – Lord, I receive grace to be a channel through which you shine the light of your word and grace upon the world around me in Jesus name.
