THE LAMB OF GOD

THE LAMB OF GOD

Welcome to the month of June 2019 and Happy Thanksgiving Sunday!

There are 256 names in the Bible for the Lord Jesus Christ, and this is because He was infinitely beyond all that any one name could express. In the book of Revelation, Jesus is called the “Lamb” 26 times. In the gospel of John, John 1:29, we find John the Baptist being the first one to declare: “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”. This is the first time Jesus is referred to as the Lamb of God. This title from John the Baptist was not new as this is the purpose of Jesus coming into the world – to take away our sins. This was God’s plan from the beginning to send His Son to save us from our sins. This was stated by angel Gabriel when he visited Joseph, the “father” of Jesus as declared in Mathew 1:20-21 “Do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” Jesus means “the Lord saves.” We are all sinners and Jesus came into this world to save us from our sins because we cannot save ourselves from sin and its consequences. It is only through Jesus that we can be made right. Isaiah 53:6 says “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way.” Yet, God would send Jesus to bring them back in to the fold.

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, Jesus came to save His followers from their sins and put us at peace with ourselves and one another and bridge the gap between us and God. When we realize we are sinners, when we can admit we sin and need help, then we will realize we are in need of a Savior. This is what Jesus’ death means to us. When Jesus died on the cross, every sin you ever committed, past present and future – every ugly thing you did and every decent thing you avoided doing, every time you lied, every time you stole, any hateful word you said, every heart you broke and every person you took advantage of, every time you turned your back on someone in need and every time you exploited a situation to your own advantage and every time you cut someone down to size was placed upon Jesus, as He hung on the cross. Jesus paid it all in full. Your dirt, your filth has been cleaned, you have been made whiter than snow. Isaiah 1: 18 says “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” THANK YOU, JESU
