Luke 2:8-14
The birth of a child usually brings joy to the family. It is celebrated and heralded as an occasion to appreciate the arrival of a precious gift to a family. It is hardly the norm that the birth of a child be celebrated by an entire country, let alone the entire world and not to mention a celebration that brings heaven and earth together. Such a celebration would be unforgettably special and precious. This was the celebration that followed the birth of the baby Jesus. The Bible records that heavenly host were in jubilation and men were invited to join in the celebration.
The reason for the celebration was that God has come to dwell among men. Shepherds were invited to celebrate because the Savior is born. The Messiah and Lord is finally here. The tyranny of the sin and darkness has finally come to end. The promised deliverance and restoration of man is finally here. God’s once-and-for-all solution to all problem of mankind is here. Celebration was not to be about the privilege to hear angels or the glorious experience of listening to heavenly carol. Though these would have been worth celebrating, they pale in comparison to the glorious implication of God coming into in human flesh. The only reason for the angels’ celebration is that God’s best gift is finally delivered. It is a celebration of salvation, redemption and revelation of God’s purpose.
This is what our celebration should also be about. We must not take the focus away from Emmanuel. No other reason is deserving of His place. Our celebration is that God gave His best to save us even in our worst state. Our celebration is that Jesus is born.
Prayer Point: Father let the birth of your son this season bring about a celebration that will terminate every depression in our lives , homes and nations in Jesus name.
