LIVING IN THE SPIRIT

LIVING IN THE SPIRIT

 EPHESIANS 5:18-20

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, out text for today contrasts two opposite forces to which a person may yield control. You can get drunk on spirits or you can get drunk on the Holy Spirit. Apostle Paul advised us to get drunk on God’s Spirit to live a Spirit filled life. The Holy Spirit shows people their sin and leads people to faith in Jesus Christ when we respond with repentance and faith. He wants to be our Helper and Counselor, teach us in the Word of God, teach us how to pray, give us gifts and teach us how to use them. In fact, He wants to make us more like Jesus.

However, we must make a full surrender of soul, mind and body to the Holy Spirit and be emptied of ungodly attributes. (Ephesians 4: 25-32, Ephesians 5: 3-5)When you become filled with the Spirit, the Holy Spirit controls your everyday living and you live in a close relationship with the Holy Spirit. The fruits of the Spirit which are manifested in Jesus Christ, love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance (Galatians 5:22 – 23) start to grow in your life.

Children of the Most High God, a life lived in the Spirit will deny flesh, stop letting sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and stop presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness. (Romans 12:1; Romans 6:12-13). You will focus on heaven by striving to put heaven’s priorities in to daily practice. (Colossians 3:1-4) You will be transformed and not conform to the pattern of this world with its behavior which is usually selfish and often corrupting. (Romans 12:1-2)

PRAYER POINT: Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.
