Victory Belongs to God

Victory Belongs to God

Ex.17:8-15, 1 John 5:1-5

A dimension of God’s person is that He is Jehovah Nissi (The Lord our Banner – Ex.17:15). He alone guarantees victory in any and all battles because victory belongs to Him and it is His to give (Prov. 21:31). His sovereignty combined with His Omnipotence and Omniscience means no adversary stands a chance before Him. In this dimension, God addresses a core need and purpose of man. This is revealed in His first blessing and command to man in Gen. 1:28 that he (man) subdue the earth. This means God anticipated opposition to man’s mandate of dominion and He made provisions available to equip man to be ready and able to be victorious in whatever battles he faces. Though the natural mindset prefers to credit victory to superiority in knowledge, weapons, and/or resources; the Bible asserts with all clarity that this mindset is totally wrong (Eccl. 9:11; Jer. 3:23). This is perfectly illustrated in David’s victory over Goliath.

The fact that victory belongs to God means that victory also is positional (which side you are with God) and relational (who you are to God) Deut. 20:4; 1 John 5:4; 2 Cor. 2:14. This truth must be embedded in the foundation of our life as we journey towards fulfilling God’s mandate for our lives. Any man seeking victory, as we all are, must first be for God and be with God (Rom. 8:37, 1 John 4:4). Herein lies the secret to guaranteed victory. Dependence on anything else outside of The Almighty is will surely end in failure (Jer.17:5; Jn. 15:5). God being a loving Father is eager to release victory to all His children. The appropriate response to God’s commitment is to acknowledge is sovereignty and submit to His Lordship. Accept Him as your Captain and see Him deliver victory to you in all battles of life.

Prayer point: Lord I acknowledge you as The Lord of Host, Sovereign Master and The King of Glory. Father ride into every battle of my life in your glory and majesty and cause me to be victorious on all sides in Jesus name.
