THE HOLY SPIRIT

THE HOLY SPIRIT

EPHESIANS 4: 17-32

The Holy Spirit is the part of the Godhead that convicts us of our sins, and comforts us as we walk through this sinful world. He is one of the Trinity and God’s sweet Spirit sent to lead us, guide us, and comfort us as we walk through this sinful world in which we are no longer citizens but citizens of heaven. Brethren, the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins and takes people who are dead in their sins and blind to the grace of God and turns them into children of God by bringing them to believe in Jesus Christ. He helps us out of our sinful attitude. Brothers and sisters in Christ, the Holy Spirit is a person who has feelings and whose feelings can be offended by being lied to. Paul wrote in this Epistle to the Ephesians “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption”. We can grieve the Holy Spirit in many ways. Verse 25 admonishes us to “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another”. Lying to each other disrupts unity by creating conflicts and destroying trust and unity among brothers and sisters. We can grieve the Holy Spirit by the way we live. Bitterness, unchristian language, slander, blackmailing, fighting, gossiping and bad attitudes to one another should be avoided by all means by all born again Christians. We as children of the Most High God, who love us so much that He sent His Son to die for our sins should always act in love to our brethren and carry a forgiving spirit. If we are unwilling to forgive, then we are not Christ like who was willing to forgive those who crucified Him. Galatians 5:22 – 24 say “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires”. Beloved, there is only one Fruit and it encompasses these nine attributes. If the Spirit of God is at home in you, the first evidence will be the love of God flowing through you to others. 1 John 2: 9 “Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother or sister is still in the darkness”. If we claim we are in the light and have received the Holy Spirit, but we do not love, we are simply deceiving ourselves. Brethren, we can grieve the Holy Spirit by allowing evil thoughts to creep into our mind and gradually afterwards into our heart. We do not grieve the Holy Spirit when we are acting within the confines of a disciple, and thus find revival in our souls. PRAISE THE LORD.
