THE PRINCE OF PEACE

THE PRINCE OF PEACE

TEXT: ISAIAH 9: 6-7; DANIEL 6:15-27

ISAIAH 9:6 “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”
Beloved children of God, the prophecy from Prophet Isaiah informs us that a unique and special child will be born who will be a Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father and The Prince of Peace. A prince is a ruler and a controller and a Prince of Peace is a controller of war and storms. We live in a world where there seems to be very little peace – war on Terrorism, war in Iraq and Afghanistan, Boko Haram War and ISIS wars in some parts of the world.

Each of us because of the sin in our lives has been separated from God. The Bible says that we deserve punishment for our sin. Exodus 34:7 says “God will not leave the guilty unpunished.” God sent a Prince of Peace to die for our sins and give us peace with God. Jesus brings peace within yourself and if you have accepted Christ as your Savior, God looks on you as if you are holy and pure. (Peter 2: 9 & 10) Our Prince of Peace has come so that you can have peace within ourselves, so that you can change your self-image and see that you have value in God’s kingdom. God has many everlasting promises which we can depend on with absolute confidence. He said in Hebrew 13: 5 that “I will never leave thee” (Heb. 13:5) and in Jeremiah 20:11 “I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil”.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, God has dealt with enemies of His people in many ways in the past. He subdued the enemies of Daniel in Daniel 6: 24 and of the Israelites in Joshua 10:10& 11. He drowned the Pharaoh army when they refused to allow the Israelites to go.

Peace may mean absence or end of storm. Jesus stilled the storm in Mark 4:39 – “He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, Quiet! Be still”. He cured Naman of leprosy in 2 Kings 5:14-20 and gave material peace to the widow whose two boys were to be taken away as slaves for money owed by her late husband in 2 Kings 4:2-7. He gave mental Peace -wisdom to Daniel in Daniel 2: 1-end and he interpreted Nebuchadnezzar’s dream after he prayed to the Lord.

Brethren, we have a Prince of Peace, His name is Jesus. He has come to give us peace with God and He come to give us peace within ourselves. How about you – have you ever asked Him to come into your heart – into your life – so that He can give you peace?
