1 Chronicles 4:9

God wants you to experience fruitfulness in every area of your life: physically, spiritually, financially,
emotionally, relationally etc. The sad truth is, some experience fruitfulness in some areas and not
others. This is the situation Jabez found himself in.
1 Chronicles 4:9 “And Jabez was more honorable than his brethren: and his mother called his name
Jabez, saying, because I bare him with sorrow”

He is described as more honorable than his brethren, meaning he had experienced success in some
areas. But he failed in, was in pain in or suffered hardship in other areas. And his name stems from a
history of trouble or pain. Child of God, do you have areas in life you feel pain in/from?
1 Chronicles 4:10 “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me
indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me
from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.”

Jabez decided to call on God (Ps 145:18-20, Jer 33:3). He asked for God’s blessings (Prov 10:22, Gen
1:28), and that God should enlarge his coast (Ps 16:5-6). Jabez further asked for God’s hand to be with
him (1Chr 28:19, Ezra 8:22) and for God to keep him from evil (Ps 104:4, Matt 6:13) .
It is recorded that God granted Jabez’s request (Matt 7:7, John 6:24, Jer 29:12) and Jabez had all round
fruitfulness. Our prayer this month is that God will grant you all round success in Jesus’ name.
