CHRIST, ATONEMENT FOR SIN

CHRIST, ATONEMENT FOR SIN

2 Corinthians 5:21 says “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him”.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, because God is holy, He demands we, His children to be holy and perfect. Mathew 5:48 says “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Without being spiritually and morally perfect, no one will ever see God, meaning no one can enter glory. Hebrew 12:14 says “…without holiness no one will see the Lord.”

Sin entered the world through Adam and changed our relationship with God. Sin destroys the image and glory of God in our lives and alienates us from Him. Romans 5:12 says “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way, death came to all people, because all sinned— Romans 5:18, “one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people.”We inherited his guilt, tendency to sin and God’s punishment.

Since sinful humanity is powerless to satisfy God’s demand for perfection, God sent His one and only Son into this world to bring the perfection needed. The sins of our imperfections must be punished and so made Him who knew no sin to be sin. 2 Cor.5:21; “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf.”God, in incomparable mercy, takes our sin and the punishment it deserves and places them on Christ, the perfect, ‘spotless Lamb of God.” Our sins were exchanged on our behalf in order to gain salvation. We need to live a perfect life to gain the reward of heaven. That was accomplished in Christ as the second part of 2 Cor.5:21 reads; “…so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Beloved, our sins were put on Christ’s account as He bore them on the cross. Then, when a person believes, Christ’s perfections, His righteousness is put to our account. Christ offers us the opportunity to be born in to His spiritual family – the family line that begins with forgiveness and leads to eternal life. PRAISE THE LORD!
