THEME FOR THE MONTH: JESUS, THE REASON FOR THE SEASON.
Thanksgiving is America’s most beloved annual holiday and takes place
on the fourth Thursday of November. The true meaning of Thanksgiving
focuses upon relationship. Thanksgiving Day was set aside as a day
when God is praised and given thanks for His mercies, His grace and His
protection for His children. Thanksgiving is an attitude of the heart that
reinforces an intimate relationship with God.
I Thess. 5:18 says “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is
God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”. Sometimes the circumstances of our
lives are not always the best. In fact, they may be downright bad, but
still, we are to look for something to be thankful for! There is always
something positive for which we can be thankful. Giving thanks is God’s
will for our lives. Giving thanks to God and others is what pleases the
Lord. In Philippians 4:4, Paul writes: “Rejoice in the Lord always: and
again, I say, Rejoice”. Paul made it clear that our giving of thanks is to
be continual and ongoing and not dependent on when everything is
going well. We must see past trials through eternity’s perspective to
enable us to be more thankful during times of struggle.
Beloved children of the Most High God, nothing has ever been given
or provided for man that is good that did not come from God. James
1:17 says "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and
cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness,
neither shadow of turning". We must be thankful for every blessing, for
our family and friends, for the ability to breathe and sleep, for sight,
hearing, tasting, touching, and smelling. Most importantly we must be
thankful to God for His love for us through His Son, our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ. Consider Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates his own love
for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us". He sent His
only begotten Son to come and die on Calvary to reconcile us to God
and also to each other. The reason for the Season. God not only
deserves our thanks, but He also desires it. He wants us to be grateful
for His goodness rather than just take it all for granted.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, God doesn’t want our thanksgiving
to be limited to the last Thursday in November, but wants us to
continue to thank Him every day. He wants us to live a life of
thankfulness.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
PRAYER POINT: My father and my God, thank You for Your
unconditional and everlasting love. I ask You to continue to pour our
Your bountiful blessings and mercy on myself and my whole family.
Amen.
