Isaiah 40: 27-31
Our God, the Almighty Creator, designed all things to find sustenance within Him (John 1:3). He holds
all things together within a divinely crafted system where dependence on Him is the only means of
sustained existence (Col. 1:16-17). Our God is so great and unfathomable that even the devil and his
cohort are all dependent on Him for sustenance (Heb. 1:3). Pride seeks to exalt itself above this mighty
God and contend with Him for the throne of the heart. Imagine the audacity of a created and frail being
that seeks to seize ownership and control from the Sovereign Maker. Pride seeks to exalt itself above all
others and as a result, it hates to be dependent or subservient. This is often the root cause of rebellion and
disobedience. A proud heart seeks to arrogate achievement to the ability and effort of self rather than
acknowledge the supply of assistance from God (Jn. 15:5). The focus on the capability of self also cause a
proud heart to question or to at least underestimate the need for dependence on the Father.
This error is fully exemplified in the fall of the devil. Having waited on God for an ageless dispensation,
he desired to cease from waiting on God and craved to be waited on and worshiped just like The Most
High. His error, in addition to his pride, was to forget that he was created to wait on the Most High, to
worship and to serve Him eternally. This error is common to every proud heart. It is symptomatic of a
proud heart to hate to wait on God or to seek Him or to acknowledge absolute dependence on the Father.
It is the longing of such heart to retain ownership and seek to exercise its will to proceed by effort.
Waiting on the Lord demands two key elements: a complete dependence on God and a willingness to
allow Him to decide the terms and the timing of His plan. It is the posture of a humble heart that accepts
its limitations and appreciates God’s limitless capacity. It is the state of a heart that embraces the purpose
for which God created men, which is to worship and to seek Him. It is the position of a heart that joyfully
obeys God’s instruction that all men seek Him and wait on Him. It is a humble heart that will not move
without the blessing of its Creator. It is not surprising that humility is the central theme of the mind of
Christ which is prescribed for all believers. Unfortunately, a proud heart hates to wait on God. It is a
symptom of these perilous times that many Christians lack the endurance and desire to wait on God. No
wonder the church is being reminded that the strength she needs is accessed through patiently waiting and
diligently seeking God. It is time to humbly come before God and embrace the wisdom in waiting (2
Chron. 7:14).
Prayer Focus: Lord I receive grace to seek you, to wait on you and to humble myself before you in Jesus
name. I receive grace to depend on you completely in Jesus name.
