2 TIMOTHY 1:3–5

The influence of mothers in the home is not to be underestimated. The greatest work a mother can do is to instill
the knowledge of God into the child’s life. Mothers are very influential in the home teaching and demonstrating
their faith. Billy Graham, the late popular American Evangelist says “Only God Himself fully appreciates the
influence of a Christian mother in the molding of character in her children.”
Grandmother Lois and mother Eunice were living many miles away from Israel and trying to keep the faith in a
strange land is never easy. However, Eunice did exactly that, as did Lois, and that surely set an example for
Timothy. The faith that Timothy possessed, was present in mother and in his grandmother: "which dwelt first in
your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice”. Timothy was able to learn from his mother, who took pains to
raise her boy “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in
the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Your families are fertile fields for planting
gospel seeds. Your spouses, children, brothers and sisters should know your faith in Jesus and see Christ’s love,
helpfulness and joy in you.

Older mothers in the RCCG Abundant Life Chapel and in the Christian world need to take the younger mothers
in the Church under their wings and guide and nurture them “to love their husbands, to love their children, to be
discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God may not be
blasphemed”. (Titus 2:3a, 4–5). Eunice had a very difficult situation, living in a land many miles away from Israel
like many of us in this Church and still trying to follow the faith of Israel. She however did “keep the faith”. His
mother, Eunice raised Timothy right and kept the faith. She left him with a lasting legacy of knowing the Scriptures,
the timeless and saving truths of God’s Word which prepared him not only for this life, but more importantly, for
eternal life. Mother, what legacy are you leaving for your children?

PRAYER POINT. Our Father and our Lord, grant each mother a special blessing on this mothers’ day,
let their example to their children be a guiding force in their lives and may wisdom be passed
down to the next generation of mothers.
